Since 2010, smart grid was written in the ‘chinese government report’, became a national strategy. Until this March, it was listed in the 12th “five years’ plan” and the words “smart grid” have been paid highly attention to. In 2009 and 2010, based on experimental works, construction of smart grid was upgraded. The 12th “five years’ plan” clarifies: dependent on the advanced technology of information, control and storage, promote the construction of smart grid, enhance the upgradation of electricity network, strengthen the allocation capability and reliability of power supply, develop experimental units, improve and build intelligent substation, spread the using of smart meters and construct charging facilities for electric vehicle. The next 5 years are the most important period for smart grid development.

State Energy Smart Grid R&D Center (Shanghai) was established in 2009, with a initial investment of 280 million RMB. Delegated by National Energy Administration (of China), the center is the first national smart grid research and development center in China. In order to contribute to smart grid development in the 12th “5 years’ plan”, many aspects were deployed in the center, including intelligent distribution network, smart electric measurements and equipments, renewable energy integration technologies, high temperature superconduct technologies, grid-friendly integration of electric vehicles, advanced system planning and operation solutions with high renewable penetration, etc. Nowadays, the center shoulders many research projects funded by government and industry.

2011 Chinese Summit Forum of Smart Grid will be sponsored by State Energy Smart Grid R&D Center (Shanghai) . www.bjx.com.cn and its operation business are responsible of the organization of the forum. The forum provides a platform for participants to understand the policies, and standards of smart grid, as well as the opportunities for future collaboration. Main participates include:
